Outdoor 2021 Update

Good afternoon SYSI registered soccer players and families;

Good afternoon SYSI registered soccer players and families; On Tues May 4, the provincial government released their ‘Re-Opening Roadmap’, a three step plan to gradually lift the current public health order as Saskatchewan reaches significant vaccination levels.  The plan did not mention sport at all in Step 1 but has the removal of all ‘remaining’ restrictions in Step 2 slated for the third week of June. This implies there is a possibility of some restrictions being lifted prior to Step 2.

We now have confirmation from Saskatchewan Soccer (SSA) that it is possible we could see lessening of some restrictions prior to Step 2.

Along with other provincial sport governing bodies, SSA met with Sask Sport yesterday morning and Sask Sport indicated that the CEO of the Business Response Team (BRT) is working on details regarding Team Sport Competition however they did not have any specifics or a timeline for this.

Indoor and outdoor sport has been treated differently throughout the pandemic and our hope is to see that continue.  Discussions are still ongoing, and we wish to inform our membership that Tuesday's announcement does not necessarily mean soccer games will be restricted until Step 2 and there is still the possibility of games being allowed sooner than that.

SYSI will be continuing the season with group training and will introduce games as soon as we are permitted to do so. SYSI will wrap up the Community Association season on June 30 and the Zone Association season on July 18.

SYSI continues to advocate for a return to meaningful competition and the well-being of our youth.

We will provide an update to all registered players and families as we find out more information. In the meantime please continue to meet regularly in your training groups while adhering to the current public health orders.
